17. Artemis - Jake English x Reader

Today you were going to do something you thought you would never do in your life, hunting. You were going with your best friends Jake and Jade. You have never been hunting before in your life, you were both nervous and excited at the same time.

“So have you ever hunted before?” Jake asked you, pulling out his rifle of choice.

“No, never.” You replied.

“Wow, you never ever have?” Jade asked in a surprised tone.

You giggled lightly and shook your head.

“Well we’re going to have to teach you.” Jake smiled a toothy smile.

You blushed slightly, the only person that knew about your crush on Jake was Jade. She was very supportive of you. She knew you were afraid to tell him because you were afraid to ruin your friendship with him.

“We aren't shooting deer and fox right?” You asked nervously.

“No, just birds and small game.” Jake assured you.

You didn’t enjoy hearing about hunters shooting and killing such beautiful creatures, but that didn’t stop you from hanging out with Jake and Jade.

“Now _______, let’s teach you how to aim.” Jake said happily as he pulled out his rifle.

He handed you the rifle. You were confused since you have never shot a gun in your life. You looked to Jade and blushed when you felt Jake reach around you to help you position the rifle in your arms. Jade gave you a thumbs up before leaving to find a nice target to practice on.

“Ok, you hold it like this.”

Jake positioned the rifle with the butt of the gun just on your right armpit, placing your left hand underneath for support and the right to the bolt and the tigger.

“This is the bolt, you load ammunition here.”

He pulled back the bolt and placed in the ammunition.

“Ok ______, see that tree?” You nod after he asked.
“Aim for the trunk.”

You looked through the eyepiece, Jake still behind you, Helping you steady the gun by holding his hands on top of yours. He turned the safety off.

“Breath in, hold it, am and shoot.” Jake said softly.

You did as he said. You shot the trunk dead on.

“Amazing ______, You’re a natural!” Jake hugged you from behind.

You were so happy you made the shot you didn’t realize that Jake was hugging you. He let you go and smiled.

“Now let’s go find Jade and get going.” You followed Jake into the forest where Jade said she would be.

You noticed a note by Jade’s stuff.

“Dear ______, and Jake

I set up a little challenge for both of you. You will see targets left around, if you both can hit inside the main target Bec will give you the next clue, before he’ll give it to you, you have to complete a dare.~

Have fun _____~ …. you too Jake.”

“Well the first target is over there.” Jake pointed to the target on the tree.

You both walked over to the line Jade left for you to stand on to shoot.

“I’m guessing it’s going to move farther and farther away as we go.” Jake thought out loud

You both shot and hit the target dead on. Bec appeared with the first card, it said “Dare 1 of 5.”

“Hold hands until the next target.”

You blushed lightly as Jake gently took your hand in his.

“A dare is a dare _____,” Jake said softly, slightly blushing.

You get the hint for the next target and walked further into the forest to get it, still hand in hand. You reached the next target, the shooting line a few steps away from the first. You let go from each other hands. It was a bit more difficult but you both did it. You received the second dare. “Dare 2 of 5”

“A Meaningful hug.”

“I wonder why meaningful is bolded.” you whispered.

You were taken into Jake’s arms, your head resting on his chest, your eyes wide open. You slowly wrapped your arms up behind his shoulders, holding onto him, his arms gently around your waist. You enjoyed the hug, he was so nice and warm. Caring as well, you really like him. The hug lasted a few minutes before you both let go.

“That was nice…” He said softly

“It was nice.” You replied softly, a blush on your features.

You made your way to the next target, both have a bit of trouble with this one. Bec came back with a longer note.

“It’s lunch time, so have some… but you have to cuddle while eating.”

“C...Cuddle.” you blushed deeply.

You both found the lunch prepared for both of you. You grabbed your lunch bag in your hand with your name. You walked over to Jake with his in your hand as well.

“You get the best seat in the house _____.” Jake said as he patted his lap, a smile on his face.

You gently sit down on his lap, finally getting used to closeness. You sat there in silence eating the sandwiches that Jade packed for you both. The time went by slowly once you finish eating, you subconsciously snuggled in deeper if possible. He slowly wrapped his arms around your waist. For once you weren’t embarrassed to be with him like this. Bec came again a few minutes with the location of the second last target. You both made your way over to it, the distance getting even longer. You both managed to hit, you thought it was pure luck, Jake thought otherwise. Bec appeared with the second last dare. “Dare 4 of 5.” The dare was plain and simple.

“Kiss”

“W...What?!” you blushed madly.

“We are going to have to ______….” Jake trailed off.

He gently brought his lips to yours, the kiss was soft and sweet. You gave into it and wrapped your arms around his neck, enjoying the kiss.

“Well that was different…” Jake said while rubbing the back of his head.

Bec gave you the final location. The distance between you and the target was huge. You wanted to hit the target badly to try and impress Jake. You followed all the steps Jake taught you after he hit the target. You hoped you would hit it, you took in a breath, aimed and shot.

“_____! You did it!” Jake cheered happily while hugging you again.

You were so happy. Bec appeared later with the final dare.

“Confess.”

You sighed and looked up at Jake.

“J...Jake I…. I have l...liked you for a w...while now.” You stuttered out.

Your eyes widened as you felt Jake pull you in close to him. He gently whispered in your ear.

“I love you too.”

You smiled an a thousand volt smile. He pulled you into another kiss, this one a bit more passionate than the other. You were so happy that he loved you back. You heard a giggle come from behind the tree, Jade walked out with the picture she just took of you two. You look at Jade, slightly flustered.

“H...Hey Jade, w...where did you get that picture?” Jake asked.

“Secret~” Jade giggled.
